What’s a Jew to Do?
How Unconscious Bias Hurts the Jewish Community and What We Can About It
An Interactive Workshop with Yehudah Webster
We all have biases, and most of them exist without us realizing it. These unconscious (or “implicit”) biases reflect learned stereotypes that are automatic, unintentional, deeply-ingrained and able to influence our behavior. Instead of making us feel guilty, we can do something about it!
In this workshop, Yehudah Webster will help us explore how implicit biases impact our self-perception, perception of the Jewish community and our attitudes towards others. By consciously reflecting on our unconscious biases, we can explore tools to adjust automatic patterns of thinking and reduce the impact of unintentional discriminatory attitudes and behaviors.
Jews around the world regularly experience discrimination based on their religion, race, gender and other factors. Understanding implicit bias is an essential step to combatting this unfortunate reality and making our community a more inclusive, welcoming place for everyone.
